Man indicted on rape and false imprisonment

Deputies: Crossing Guard Sold Drugs on Job

A Mamou school crossing guard is behind bars for allegedly selling drugs while on the job. Evangeline Parish sheriff's deputies say John Wayne Jones, Sr., sold pills during school hours and while he was working. Jones faces multiple drug charges and is in the Evangeline Parish Jail on $80,000 bond.

Eunice Men Arrested for Alleged Possession of Stolen Property

Ville Platte Man's Body Found in Home

Ville Platte police are investigating a body found in a residence. Officials say friends of John Early found him dead in his home Monday. Investigators say Early had been drinking the night before and had been involved in a fight before walking home. Autopsy reports are pending, and the case remains under investigation.

Autism walk scheduled in Evangeline Parish

Evangeline CAN (Community Autism Network) will host an inaugural 1 mile walk on April 13, 2013 from 9am - 1pm at the Ville Platte Civic Center Pavilion. The walk will begin at 10am. All proceeds will benefit Evangeline CAN.
Registration fee is $20 per person and is due by March 20, 2013. (More)

ACLU wins lawsuit against Ville Platte over walking curfew

An elderly Evangeline Parish man is facing charges after officials say he was making moonshine in his home. All Public Schools in Evangeline Parish are closed on Thursday, January 10th. All Supervisors should still report to school in the morning. Superintendent Toni Hamlin says the first floor of Mamou High School is flooding.

Teen Goes Missing while Hunting; Found in Crawfish Pond

A 17-year-old Evangeline Parish boy is recovering in a local hospital after going missing near his St. Landry home. Detectives say the boy, who has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old, went hunting behind his house, but he got lost in the woods. Sheriff's deputies began their search around 11:00 last night and found the boy around 10:00 this morning in a crawfish pond about a quarter of a mile away from his home.

Ville Platte Man Arrested; More than 1,100 Images of Child Pornography

Detectives with Louisiana State Police arrested Bradley Smith, 57, of Ville Platte, for possession of child pornography. "Smith was in possession of over 1,100 images and 40 videos depicting child pornography," Trooper Stephen Hammons said. State Police began investigating Smith in September. (More)
