    US 167 south of Ville Platte remains closed after heavy rains this morning flooded the road. State police say there is still no timetable as to when the highway will be reopened.

    Effective immediately, La. 1166, from La. 104 to La. 1165, is closed to traffic in order for crews to repair a culvert. The detour for this closure includes La. 104 to La. 29 to La. 1165.

    Gas service in Ville Platte will not be restored tonight. It won't be restored until tomorrow morning to allow workers to continue repairing a broken line, Mayor Jennifer Vidrine said.

    The mayor says gas service should be restored by Wednesday afternoon. Residents are warned not to turn on their gas without clearance from a Ville Platte City worker. It's not safe, said the mayor. City workers will go door-to-door to turn the gas back on.

    Ville Platte Gas Valve Shut Off

    Ville Platte is without gas service at this hour after a line broke earlier today. According to the Evangeline Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness's Facebook page, the main valve was shut off as a precautionary measure following the line break. Officials say they expect gas to remain off for the next two to three hours while repairs are made.

    Voters to Decide on Property Tax to Support Basile High

    In Acadia and Evangeline Parishes, voters will decide whether to renew a 10-year property tax to fund the Basile High School Athletic Department.

    Mamou police are searching for the person who damaged an ATM at a local bank. Police say a man driving a pick-up truck with a utility bed and trailer caused $2000 worth of damage to the cash machine. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Mamou police at 337-468-5221.

    Mamou Council to Consider Blight Ordinance

    The Mamou Board of Aldermen will vote next month on adding penalties to its blighted property ordinance. According to Mayor Ricky Fontenot, there are no penalties for those who do not clean or demolish blighted properties. However, the proposed ordinance calls for fines and jail time for those who do not comply with the law. The council will consider the measure at its May 8 meeting.

    Turkey Creek residents decided not to allow the mayor to appoint their police chief. Currently, residents elect their own chief. The vote was 24 to 64, 72% choosing "no".

    State Police on Scene of Chataignier Bus Accident

    State police are on their way to the scene of a two-vehicle accident in Chataignier involving a school bus. The accident took place around 3:25 this afternoon. Officials say students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Only minor injuries were reported. However, an ambulance is on scene as a precaution. A KATC crew is en route, and we will bring you more information as it becomes available.

    State police remind drivers to drive cautiously near school buses.

    Woman Arrested on Molestation Charge

    An Evangeline Parish woman is in jail for allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl. Investigators say 21-year-old Heather Miller Langley was arrested after medical and forensic evidence confirmed a tip they received about the incident. Langley is being held on $75,000 bond.
