Crowley Police are investigating a shooting that occurred shortly before 9:30 this morning on West 9th street. Police say a suspect is detained pending an investigation. The victim is at a local hospital in serious condition.
A police unit was involved in an accident while en route to the shooting. The accident has major damage to vehicles with moderate injuries to both drivers.
The incident is still under investigation.

KATC has learned the pilot who crashed near Estherwood in Acadia Parish crashed when the plane malfunctioned. He ejected from the plane and landed safely using a parachute. The pilot was the only person onboard and has minor injuries to his foot.

Two Crowley families are without homes after a fire destroyed their apartment. Firefighters responded to the East Cedar Street residence around 10:30 this morning. Fire officials say they believe a stove started the fire. No one was home at the time of the blaze.

A suspect in the 1984 disappearance and death of a Crowley businessman has pleaded not guilty. Leila Mulla entered the plea Friday morning in a Baton Rouge court. She is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Gary Kergan. Police believe Mulla and another suspect, Ronald Dunnigan, beat Kergan to death. Mulla will return to court on September 19 for a hearing.

Crowley Police were called to a fight this afternoon at Westwood Apartment Complex and showed up to a group of 100 or more people, Police Chief K.P. Gibson said.
Most people were bystanders, but Gibson said multiple people were fighting. It happened around 3:00. Two people were arrested, and an officer was punched in the scuffle.
