UPDATE: Acadia Body Found Headed to Calcasieu Parish

A badly decomposed body was discovered in Acadia Parish earlier tonight at an oil well site located off Hawks Road near Robert's Cove.

UPDATE: Decomposed Body Found In Acadia Parish

The coroner is on scene along Hawks Road (pictured) in Acadia parish, investigating a badly decomposed body found in a wooded-area near Rayne. According to the coroner, the body is that of a man and has likely been there for less than one week. It was discovered this afternoon by a boy riding a four-wheeler, near a road which serves as an entrance for an oil-well. The case is being investigated as a homicide, and the remains will be sent to Lake Charles for an autopsy.

Decomposed body discovered in Acadiana

A badly decomposed body has been discovered in Acadia Parish, sheriff's office spokesperson Maxine Trahan said. The body was found near Hawks Rd. and Providence Hwy. KATC has a crew on the way and will have more information when it's available.

Two local newspapers cease publication

The Rayne Independent, a 45-year-old weekly newspaper in Rayne, published its last issue today, and the Scott Connection, a 5-year-old weekly newspaper, published its final issue Wednesday. Both papers are owned by Independent Publishing.

Former Richard Fire Chief Robert Keith Dies

The first chief of the Richard Volunteer Fire Department has died. Funeral services for Robert Keith will be held this morning at 10:30 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Richard. Keith died last Thursday. He was 78.

Arrest made in Branch trail ride shooting

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office say a man is in custody for attempted second-degree murder as part of the ongoing investigation of an incident that left two people injured and a third person dead after a trail ride party Sunday evening.

Mom Praying for Son's Killer

Acadia Parish Deputies identified the man who was killed Sunday in a triple shooting as 18-year-old D'Andre Goodley of Eunice.
So far, no arrests have been made. The shooting happened at a gas station off LA-35 in Branch just after eight o'clock Sunday night.
