    The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced that shrimp season will reopen at 6:00 a.m. on April 24, 2018, in a portion of state outside waters seaward of Vermillion Bay.

    Abbeville Police are investigating a shooting death that happened at about 2 a.m. Monday. Douglas Bourque, 38, of Kaplan, was found laying in the middle of East Vermilion Street with several gunshot wounds. Officers started CPR, then medics arrived, and Bourque was transported to Abbeville General, then airlifted to Lafayette General. Bourque underwent surgery, but he died from his injuries, police say.     Vermilion Parish officials are asking for help to solve the theft of more than 50 storm drain covers in the past month. The thieves, who apparently are lifting the covers at night in mostly rural areas, are probably making only a few bucks for each cover they steal, said Police Juror Wayne Touchet. But to replace them, it costs about $300 or $400, he said.  "We're trying to catch them," Touchet said. "We'd like the public to put eyes on it to see if we can catch ...

    Louisiana State Police have cited the person driving the SUV that struck and killed a bicyclist in Pecan Island. The crash happened on LA 82 west of LA 3147 in Vermilion Parish. The crash claimed the life of 34 year old Michelle J. Hebert of Lafayette. The preliminary investigation revealed Hebert was traveling east on a bicycle, approximately 4 feet from the solid white fog line in the eastbound lane of travel, when she was struck from behind by a 2012 GMC Acadia driven by 30 year ...

    The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the Delcambre Bridge on LA 14 will be closed between LA 330 (Railroad Road) and Jefferson Island Road beginning Tuesday, March 20 until Thursday, March 22, for bridge repairs. This closure is estimated to take place nightly from 8 p.m. until 6 a..m., weather permitting. The detour will include LA 89, LA 88, US 90 and LA 14.
